The activities of the ROSE School are focused on research and advanced training in the field of seismic risk reduction. They encompass the fields of structural and geotechnical engineering, structural dynamics, engineering seismology, probability and statistics, advanced numerical analysis and state-of-the-art experimental testing techniques.

In terms of advanced training, the ROSE School foresees a set of post-graduate academic, professional and research programmes jointly awarded by the University of Pavia and the University School of Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia. This refers specifically to the ROSE curriculum of the Master of Science in Civil Engineering for Mitigation of Risk from Natural Hazards, the ROSE Advanced Master’s in Earthquake Engineering (formally known as Post-Master’s Vocational Programme), and the ROSE Doctoral Programme in Earthquake Engineering, all of which are jointly offered by the University of Pavia and IUSS Pavia.

MSc in Civil Engineering for Mitigation of Seismic Risk

This is a two-year Civil Engineering MSc degree programme (Laurea Magistrale) that provides advanced training in the assessment, reduction and management of the seismic risk to new and existing structures and infrastructures. The curriculum integrates structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, seismology, advanced design and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Admission: open to candidates holding a Bachelor (or higher) degree requiring at least 3 years of academic education
  • Two-year academic programme with a final research thesis
  • Tuition-waivers are available
  • Applications are open until 18th March 2026 for non-EU citizens, while for EU citizens until 17th September, 2026

Advanced Master’s in Earthquake Engineering

This is an Advanced Master’s Programme (Second Level Specialising Master) designed to develop professionals with robust scientific and practical expertise in the field of Earthquake Engineering. The Advanced Master’s also includes an internship period at affiliated institutions, allowing students to apply the knowledge acquired in a professional context.

  • Admission: open to applicants holding a degree (Bachelor plus Master) requiring at least 5 years of academic education
  • One-year academic programme
  • Nine tuition-waivers were available for the 2025/2026 call
  • Applications closed on 24th November, 2025; new applications will open around April, 2026

PhD in Earthquake Engineering

This is a PhD programme in Earthquake Engineering that aims to train graduates and professionals with strong scientific and professional capabilities, aware of the cultural, technical and management contents related to the understanding and management of the extreme situations caused by seismic hazard, through advanced interdisciplinary approaches.

  • Admission: open to applicants holding a degree (Bachelor plus Master) requiring at least 5 years of academic education
  • Three-year academic programme with a final research thesis
  • A total of eight positions with full scholarships were available for the 2025/2026 call
  • Applications closed on 16th June, 2025; new applications will open around April, 2026
