Short Course on Blast and Fire Response of Structures in Oil and Gas Facilities and Mitigations

Pavia, February 29 to March 4, 2016

Objectives of the course

The primary objective of this course is to offer fundamental understanding on blast and fire engineering that can be applied for both onshore and offshore oil and gas structures. The course content encompasses the state-of-the-art methods developed for analyzing blast and fire events and their influence on human and infrastructures. This course will not only enhance the capacity of participants on basic principles applied to blast and fire engineering, but also will provide them with numerous practical applications by pulling in real-world problems accomplished in each area.

The course is taught by Dr. Ali Sari, Manager of Structures group in Genesis Consultancy, Houston.

About the instructor

Dr. Sari has 20 years of experience as a structural engineer. He is the Manager of Structures group in Genesis Consultancy, Houston. He is actively involved in project work as Project Manager/Director, and is in charge of technical review of the projects, project deliveries and QA/QC.
His key experience areas are structural response to abnormal loadings (seismic, hurricane, blast, and fire), aging assets, structural integrity management, finite element analysis, reliability analysis, and fatigue/crack growth analysis. He is the author of around 40 technical publications in these areas and he is also a member of ASCE, API, and ISO technical committees.
He holds P.H.D. degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
